We have been completely enamored with The Backrooms for about a year now. It's tough to explain and if you know, then you know. The awesome folks over at Backrooms Wiki put it like this:
"If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in."
We also owe many thanks to Broogli, Nick Crowley, and the entire community for all the info.
It's like a traveling horror story about liminal spaces, uneasy places, abandoned dreamcore worlds, lost hopes, ghoulish entities, and empty office spaces. Where nothing is as it seems and it all comes from the imaginations of the people who support it and write it. Go ahead, pick an unknown level and start filling in some blanks with the community(Level Form).
There are many pictures from The Backrooms. We have been studying them and wondering what the rest of the space was like, so we started building our interpretation for virtual reality.
This is a work-in-progress. We don't have a lot of time for this passion project so we will use marketplace assets where we can. We are also constantly learning, especially Unreal Engine and Blender, so please let us know if you see something we should do differently or any suggestions you might have. Here is a video of what we have so far. It shows the original picture and then our recreation of the scene.
