John Wallace

I am the Lead Programmer at Woo Studios/LakesideCentral LLC, specializing in Virtual Reality (VR) game development. I have successfully programmed and shipped two VR games available on Steam, demonstrating expertise in gameplay programming, lighting, optimization, shipping, and the full development cycle.

I also am an aspiring musician with an extensive discography. I use Avid Pro Tools and am somewhat proficient at music production.

I received a 1460 on my SAT test, and have scored very well on the California Achievement Test in the past.

Homeschool Assessments
Homeschool has been my primary form of study for all of my life. Although I did go to elementary school for socialization and extracurricular activities, most of what I've learned has come from a robust and multifaceted homeschool curriculum. Starting in 2021, I took the California Achievement Test every year, usually scoring at or near the maximum value for 4 or more of the grade equivalencies (13.6 is the maximum).

In addition, our End Of Year Assessments contain several life events and major projects I've undertaken.

BrVR Backrooms VR

This was not my first rodeo with VR in Unreal Engine 4, but it was the first to be published. It was started as a fan art for a popular internet concept named The Backrooms, but quickly became much more than that. We now have over 2500 units sold on Steam, and over 10K grossed from sales. Not to mention, a Patreon page that is also generating revenue.

As for the production, I programmed nearly all systems in the game, with the exception of the VR character used (although it has been modified heavily) and some of the enemy AI. There are over 120 different levels in the game, each I had to optimize to run at a stable 72hz on a Meta Quest 3.

Our community on discord has grown to over 300 members, and I have been moderating such a community for 2 years. I have pushed weekly updates since inception, and have tended to the inevitable packaging errors through careful and deliberate debugging methodology. I package builds nearly every night to test.
With the goal of being a full stack developer I took on level design, gameplay programming, debugging, music, sound design, lighting, community engagement, and even producing a livestreamed youtube series. I learned to use Steamworks as well.

Bread Or Dead VR
My Second VR title, which was an upgrade in engine version (from UE4.25 to UE4.27) and a huge step forward in quality. I learned about more modular programming and optimization options that allowed me to streamline a product to feel AAA out of the box. Sound design was also something I learned a lot more about while developing Bread or Dead, as I needed many sound cues for the complicated weapon mechanics, gore, and reverb zones.

Every studio has their zombie shooter, but I wasn't afraid to push boundaries with physics-based mechanics similar to landmark VR titles such as Boneworks.

Early Access release: November 15th 2024

Music
Music has always been a passion of mine. I started playing piano when I was 7, and guitar when I was 13. I grew up in a musical family, my mother coming from a stage background and my father from a recording engineer/DJ background. I started composing with Musescore at age 8, getting 3 of my pieces selected to be played at the annual Music-Comp event. I eventually moved onto making electronic music in Garageband in 2021, making most of the music for my first VR project. In 2023, I switched to Avid Pro Tools and that's when my journey on electronic music production really started.

I'm now able to confidently create songs, mix them, and master them. I'm not an expert yet, but I do have a proficient understanding of EQ, compression, the stereo field, mono/stereo and multi-mono, operation with plug-ins, MIDI editing, and overall song structure and sound.
I routinely sing on my tracks, sometimes in a joking manner but often in a serious lyrical format.

Genres: Classical (in the beginning), Vaporwave, Chill, Synthwave, and the occasional Metal piece.
